Using ASMR to wind down at night

Updated

What to expect

Plenty of people put on ASMR at night because the slow pace and quiet voices help them settle. That is a personal report, not a promise. ASMR is not medicine, and it will not fix a serious sleep problem. If you are regularly unable to sleep, speak to a doctor.

Set it up so it does not wake you

Turn the volume down lower than you think you need. Look for videos with a steady, even level, since a sudden loud sound can undo the effect. If you use a phone, put it on do-not-disturb so a message does not interrupt the video. Lowering the screen brightness, or covering the screen, helps too.

Videos made for sleep are often long and slow. Some fade out, and some simply keep going. If you would rather not have audio playing all night, use your device's sleep timer to stop it.

Choose a voice, not a trend

The voice you find easiest to relax to is the right one, whoever is popular. Try a few whispered and soft-spoken videos, and note which speaking pace works for you. Some people prefer narration with a story. Others prefer plain sounds and no words at all.

Where to start on ASMR Yume

The sleep aid category collects videos made for the end of the day. Pick one, put your headphones on or set a speaker low, and let it run. If it does not work the first night, try a different style before giving up.
